Vietnam to cooperate in investigation of citizen accused of murder in Japan

Foreign ministry spokeswoman Pham Thu Hang said at a regular press briefing on July 31 that Japanese police had arrested a Vietnamese national on charges of robbery, murder and unlawful entry in the city of Imari, Saga Prefecture.

"Vietnamese representative missions in Japan have contacted local authorities to validate information and timely put in place appropriate citizen protection measures in accordance with Vietnamese and Japanese laws... Vietnamese representative missions in Japan will continue close coordination with relevant Japanese authorities to investigate and address this matter in accordance with the law," Hang said.

The spokeswoman described the case as "deeply saddening" and extended heartfelt condolences to the victim’s family. The Vietnamese Consul General in Fukuoka has also sent a letter of sympathy to the governor of Saga Prefecture and a condolence letter to the victim’s family.

On July 27, Saga police arrested 24-year-old Vietnamese technical trainee Dam Duy Khang on suspicion of breaking into the home of 40-year-old Japanese language teacher Mukumoto Maiko to rob and kill her.

• Ngày 27/7, cảnh sát Saga đã bắt giữ thực tập sinh kỹ thuật người Việt Nam, Đàm Duy Khang, 24 tuổi, vì nghi ngờ đột nhập vào nhà của giáo viên tiếng Nhật Mukumoto Maiko, 40 tuổi, để cướp của và giết người.

According to Saga police, Khang allegedly threatened Maiko and her 70-year-old mother with a knife, demanding money before attacking them. He reportedly took more than 10,000 yen (US$66.47) before fleeing. Maiko was found dead at the entrance of her home, while her mother sustained injuries to her neck and multiple other areas.

• Theo cảnh sát Saga, Khang bị cáo buộc đã đe dọa Maiko và mẹ của cô, 70 tuổi, bằng một con dao, đòi tiền trước khi tấn công họ. Anh ta được cho là đã lấy hơn 10.000 yên (66,47 USD) trước khi bỏ trốn. Maiko được phát hiện đã chết tại lối vào nhà của cô, trong khi mẹ của cô bị thương ở cổ và nhiều khu vực khác.

Khang, a food processing trainee, lived with several other Vietnamese trainees near the victim's home. Police have seized a 13.5 cm bloodstained knife believed to be the murder weapon.
