Vietnam records 54% drop in DUI violations during Tet holiday

The department reported a 54% decrease in alcohol-related violations compared to the same period last year, when more than 37,400 cases were recorded.

Overall, authorities dealt with 55,500 traffic violations throughout the holiday, which ended on Sunday, a 42% drop from the previous year’s figures. Around 3,000 driving licenses were revoked during this period, and police seized approximately 430 cars and 20,700 motorbikes. The traffic police added that alcohol-related offenses accounted for over 30% of the total.

In terms of accidents, 445 traffic incidents were reported, resulting in 209 fatalities and 337 injuries.

This marks a decrease of 258 accidents compared to last year’s Tet holiday.

Officials noted that while there were high volumes of vehicles entering Hanoi and HCMC, no severe or prolonged traffic jams were reported.
