Vietnam ranks 3rd globally in electric motorbike sales

Its market size doubled year-on-year, according to online database Motorcycles Data. China led with 3.2 million vehicles and India followed with 657,000. Global sales topped 4.4 million, a 7.2% year-on-year increase.

In Vietnam, only VinFast has publicly disclosed electric motorbike sales figures, while brands such as Honda, Yamaha, Dat Bike, Yadea, and Selex Motor have not.

• Tại Việt Nam, chỉ có VinFast công khai số liệu bán xe máy điện, trong khi các thương hiệu như Honda, Yamaha, Dat Bike, Yadea và Selex Motor thì không.

Conglomerate Vingroup’s homegrown brand is among the top 10 global electric motorcycle manufacturers. Last year it led the Vietnamese market with sales of nearly 71,000 units.

• Thương hiệu nội địa của tập đoàn Vingroup nằm trong top 10 nhà sản xuất xe máy điện toàn cầu. Năm ngoái, VinFast dẫn đầu thị trường Việt Nam với doanh số gần 71.000 chiếc.

While VinFast has not disclosed sales figures for the first half of this year, sources told VnExpress that the estimated number is over 100,000.

Of the various segments, electric motorbikes not requiring a license recorded the highest sales growth of 112%. These models, known for their affordability, primarily target students and homemakers.

Analysts said the imminent ban on gasoline motorcycles in parts of Hanoi and likelihood of similar measures in HCMC is expected to drive demand for electric motorbikes in the coming years. Honda and Yamaha only sell one electric motorcycle model each, and their sales remain minimal.
