US cherry prices hit record lows in Vietnam

It has become a huge draw at supermarkets and fruit stores across Vietnam thanks to the low prices. It is priced at around VND299,000 per kilogram, while some major retail chains are offering promotions, selling at just VND189,000, or half last year’s prices.

• Cherry đã trở thành mặt hàng hấp dẫn tại siêu thị và cửa hàng trái cây trên khắp Việt Nam nhờ giá thấp. Giá cherry hiện khoảng 299.000 đồng/kg, trong khi một số chuỗi bán lẻ lớn đang chạy chương trình khuyến mãi, bán với giá chỉ 189.000 đồng, bằng một nửa so với giá năm ngoái.

Online stores and supermarkets are importing large quantities of cherries from the U.S. this year instead of from Chile unlike in previous years. WinCommerce, operator of the WinMart chain, is running a promotion at VND299,000 per kilogram from July 8 to 23, or down VND160,000 from the original price.

• Các cửa hàng trực tuyến và siêu thị đang nhập khẩu số lượng lớn cherry từ Mỹ trong năm nay thay vì từ Chile như những năm trước. WinCommerce, nhà vận hành chuỗi WinMart, đang chạy chương trình khuyến mãi với giá 299.000 đồng/kg từ ngày 8 đến 23 tháng 7, giảm 160.000 đồng so với giá gốc.

MM Mega Market is selling it at VND189,000 and reported strong demand. In fact, demand at supermarkets has risen by 140% from last year.

The Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association said imports of cherry have been among the fastest growing of any fruit in 2025, increasing by 43% year-on-year.

With import tariffs on U.S. cherries declining, prices are expected to become even more competitive.

• Với thuế nhập khẩu cherry Mỹ giảm, giá dự kiến sẽ càng cạnh tranh hơn.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, thanks to favorable weather, sweet cherry output has increased by 8% from 2024 to an estimated 383,000 tons.

• Theo Bộ Nông nghiệp Mỹ, nhờ thời tiết thuận lợi, sản lượng cherry ngọt đã tăng 8% từ năm 2024 lên khoảng 383.000 tấn.

But exports to China, for several years a major market, have declined as they face import tariffs of 58%.

• Nhưng xuất khẩu sang Trung Quốc, thị trường lớn trong nhiều năm, đã giảm do đối mặt với thuế nhập khẩu 58%.

Though China has temporarily suspended additional tariffs, the basic tax rate still prevents the U.S. from competing with Chile, which enjoys preferential treatment under trade agreements with China.

On the other hand, Vietnam is negotiating with the U.S. to reduce import tariffs on American goods to zero.

In 2023, when China unexpectedly imposed higher tariff levels on U.S. cherry exporters were forced to explore new markets like Vietnam, South Korea, and Japan.

• Năm 2023, khi Trung Quốc bất ngờ áp dụng mức thuế cao hơn, các nhà xuất khẩu cherry Mỹ buộc phải tìm kiếm thị trường mới như Việt Nam, Hàn Quốc và Nhật Bản.

In the U.S. wholesale cherry prices dropped by 10-15% in June and July compared to last year.

• Tại Mỹ, giá bán buôn cherry đã giảm 10-15% trong tháng 6 và tháng 7 so với năm ngoái.
