Lychee output to rise 30% this year

Favourable weather conditions and proper disease control are attributed to the increased production.

Of the total output, about 165,000 tonnes is from the northern province of Bac Giang, 60,000 tonnes from the northern province of Hai Duong, 22,000 tonnes from the northern province of Hung Yen, 22,000 tonnes from the northern province of Lang Son, and another 21,000 tonnes from the Central Highland province of Dak Lak.

• Trong tổng sản lượng, khoảng 165.000 tấn là từ tỉnh Bắc Giang, 60.000 tấn từ tỉnh Hải Dương, 22.000 tấn từ tỉnh Hưng Yên, 22.000 tấn từ tỉnh Lạng Sơn, và 21.000 tấn từ tỉnh Đắk Lắk.

The harvest time is relatively short, divided into two phases – from May 20 to June 10 for early-ripen fruits, and from June 10 to July 25 for the main crop. Therefore, early preparations are required for proper harvest, processing, and consumption of lychee, according to the department.

• Thời gian thu hoạch tương đối ngắn, chia thành hai giai đoạn – từ ngày 20 tháng 5 đến ngày 10 tháng 6 cho quả chín sớm, và từ ngày 10 tháng 6 đến ngày 25 tháng 7 cho vụ chính. Do đó, cần có sự chuẩn bị sớm để đảm bảo việc thu hoạch, chế biến và tiêu thụ vải thiều đúng cách, theo cục này.

Regarding the management of production and packaging unit codes, 469 production unit codes have been granted to a total area of nearly 19,400 ha, and 55 packaging facility codes issued to serve exports to such markets as China, Australia, Thailand, Japan, and the U.S. These facilities have been monitored regularly and already completed registration procedures for the 2025 crop year.

• Về quản lý mã số đơn vị sản xuất và đóng gói, đã cấp 469 mã số đơn vị sản xuất cho tổng diện tích gần 19.400 ha, và cấp 55 mã số cơ sở đóng gói để phục vụ xuất khẩu sang các thị trường như Trung Quốc, Úc, Thái Lan, Nhật Bản và Hoa Kỳ. Các cơ sở này đã được giám sát thường xuyên và đã hoàn thành thủ tục đăng ký cho vụ mùa năm 2025.

In terms of preparations for plant quarantine treatment as required by importing countries, since the beginning of April, the Department of Plant Production and Protection has proactively worked with plant quarantine agencies of other countries to complete documents and conduct inspections of fresh lychee processing facilities, including three irradiation facilities and three fumigation ones.

To date, these establishments have been approved by foreign authorities for the 2025 crop and are now ready to handle the fruits for export.

• Đến nay, các cơ sở này đã được các cơ quan nước ngoài phê duyệt cho vụ mùa năm 2025 và hiện đã sẵn sàng xử lý quả vải để xuất khẩu.

Particularly, after a long period of negotiations, starting from the 2025 crop, Japan has authorised Vietnam to supervise the processing of lychee shipments to this country, instead of sending its experts to supervise the entire farming process. This has helped save a lot of time and costs for both fresh fruit growers and exporters.

• Đặc biệt, sau một thời gian dài đàm phán, bắt đầu từ vụ mùa năm 2025, Nhật Bản đã cho phép Việt Nam giám sát việc chế biến các lô hàng vải thiều sang nước này, thay vì cử chuyên gia sang giám sát toàn bộ quá trình canh tác. Điều này đã giúp tiết kiệm rất nhiều thời gian và chi phí cho cả người trồng và nhà xuất khẩu quả tươi.

Quarantine units and food safety testing laboratories are also ready to deploy equipment and staff to collect and examine samples to facilitate exports. It is expected that quarantine officers will be present in localities from June 1 until the end of the harvest season.

• Các đơn vị kiểm dịch và phòng thí nghiệm kiểm tra an toàn thực phẩm cũng đã sẵn sàng triển khai thiết bị và nhân viên để thu thập và kiểm tra mẫu nhằm tạo điều kiện thuận lợi cho xuất khẩu. Dự kiến, các cán bộ kiểm dịch sẽ có mặt tại các địa phương từ ngày 1 tháng 6 cho đến khi kết thúc mùa thu hoạch.

Approximately 60% of the output is expected to be consumed domestically, while the remainder destined for export. Although Vietnamese lychee has entered over 20 countries worldwide, 90% of the export volume goes to the Chinese market, according to the department.
