Japanese airport welcomes record 20 million foreign passengers

Narita International Airport recorded more than 20 million foreign passengers last year, the highest figure since its opening in 1978, according to the Narita International Airport Corp. (NAA).

Increased international travel demand, potentially influenced by a weak Japanese yen, may have contributed to the surge, The Strait Times reported.

Air traffic data shows that 39.8 million passengers traveled on domestic and international flights via Narita last year, a 22% increase compared to 2023. Of these, 32.2 million were on international flights, up 29%; and 21.7 million were foreign passengers, reflecting a 36% rise, as reported by The Japan News.

The total number of flights to and from Narita reached 242,071, a 15% increase from 2023. Of those, 190,978 were international flights, which rose by 20%.
