Diogo Jota's Lamborghini may have been speeding before fatal accident: police

The investigation into the cause of the accident is still going on, but Spain's Guardia Civil initially reported that the car was traveling over the speed limit of 120 km/h when a tire burst. This conclusion was drawn after analyzing tire marks at the scene.

Guardia Civil also stated that Jota was most likely the driver of the Lamborghini at the time of the crash, ESPN reported.

The accident occurred on the morning of July 3 on the A52 motorway, about 110 km west of Valladolid, Spain.

According to CNN Portugal, Jota had recently undergone lung surgery. Doctors had advised him not to fly, as the pressure difference during a flight could lead to complications, which is why Jota had to travel by road and water. The supercar was expected to be transported by ferry to England.

Jota's death came just 11 days after he married his longtime partner, Rute Cardoso. The couple first met in 2012 while attending high school in Porto at the age of 13, and they had been together ever since. The two have three children.

The funeral for Jota and Silva was held at the Igreja Matriz de Gondomar Catholic Church on July 5, in the town where Jota married last month. Both Jota brothers were laid to rest in the local cemetery following the funeral.

Many of Jota's teammates from the Portugal national team, as well as his former clubs, including Liverpool, Porto and Wolves, attended the funeral.
